FORRES
ERIC DUGUID

Former Forres branch chairman Eric Duguid died in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on 29 July 2024, following the worsening of a long-term chest condition.

Eric was born on 15 January 1949 in Midmar, Aberdeenshire. After a happy home life with school in Huntly, he married Ann in 1968 and joined the Queen’s Own Highlanders in 1971.

The couple thoroughly enjoyed family and Army life with their two daughters, Shirley and Sharon, and Eric loved being a grandfather too. He left the Army as a WO2 in 1994 and was immensely proud of his service. He thrived on the camaraderie.

He became a landscape gardener until a heart attack aged 55 resulted in his early retirement. Ann very sadly pre-deceased him 10 years ago.

Eric strongly supported the Forres branch of Legion Scotland for 15 years, becoming its enthusiastic and active chairman until June 2024. One of his final tasks with the Forres branch was to help plan Moray's 80th Commemoration of D-Day, and he was able to attend the event.

Latterly, Heather Logie, a longstanding friend on the committee at the Legion, and Eric became partners. The branch's sincerest condolences go to Shirley, Sharon, Heather and family.
